It all started with a simple idea, born out of frustration and driven by the belief that this should be available to everyone with an older or smaller boat and yes, also for those who simply don’t want to deal with a black water tank.
What is Naviloo®?
Naviloo® is an innovative insert that transforms existing marine toilets and pump toilets into a separating toilet system. It separates urine from solid waste, reducing odor, water usage, and environmental impact without requiring a complete toilet replacement.
What problem does Naviloo® solve?
Many boats struggle with unpleasant odors, full black water tanks, complex installations, and strict environmental regulations. Naviloo® solves these problems by separating waste at the source, eliminating smell and reducing maintenance.
Is Naviloo® a composting toilet?
No. Naviloo® is not a composting toilet. It is a separating toilet insert. Solid waste is collected dry in a hygienic bag, while urine is diverted separately and goes overboard. No composting process is required onboard.

Naviloo® is compatible with most standard marine toilets and manual pump toilets. If you are unsure, you can contact Naviloo® with photos and specifications of your toilet for confirmation.
Does Naviloo® require electricity or plumbing changes?
No. Naviloo® works without electricity and does not require changes to your plumbing system.
How does Naviloo® help the environment?
Naviloo® is designed to help boat owners comply with current and future environmental regulations related to wastewater and black water discharge. According to the regulations it is prohibited to release solid waste in the environment. Urine is allowed provided it was never in contact with feces according to the regulations in the Netherlands..
How do I use Naviloo®?
Using Naviloo® is simple:
- Install the insert in your toilet
- Place a collection bag for solid waste
- Add small wood chips or sawdust in the collection bag
- Urine is automatically diverted
- Close the bag and place in collection bin until the harbour
- Dispose of waste responsibly
Does Naviloo® smell?
No. Because urine and solid waste are separated and feces is dried by the addition of wood chips, odor is significantly reduced or eliminated.
How often do I need to empty it?
After every toilet visit, the collection bag is replaced. Therefore, the capacity of the waste bin is the only reason to visit a marina for proper waste disposal
Is Naviloo® an alternative to a black water tank?
Yes. Naviloo® is a practical alternative to a holding tank. Instead of storing mixed waste in a tank that causes odor and requires pump-out stations, Naviloo® separates waste and simplifies disposal.
Can boats with a black water tank still use Naviloo®?
Absolutely. Even boats with a black water tank benefit from Naviloo® by reducing or eliminating the need to use the tank, allowing longer stays out on the water.
